Buying guide
How to choose a car battery brand
The brand comes last. The car itself decides most of the choice.
- 01
Start with the specification
Case size, terminal layout, capacity and cranking rating have to match the car. Only brands that make that exact battery are candidates.
- 02
Match the technology
A start-stop car needs EFB or AGM. A car built with AGM must get AGM again, whichever brand you prefer.
- 03
Consider who built the car
Factory-supplier brands keep a car on its original specification: Korean brands for Hyundai and Kia, European AGM specialists for German cars.
- 04
Then weigh price against use
A car that sits in heat or carries heavy electrical loads repays a stronger battery. A lightly used city car is well served by a value brand of the right size.
