Why batteries fail in Silicon Oasis

Most cars in Silicon Oasis spend the day in one spot: an apartment-tower basement or podium level, staff and visitor parking around DSO Headquarters and Dubai Digital Park, the Silicon Central car park, or a university or hospital parking area. A lot of journeys are short hops inside the community, which do not run the engine long enough to put back what the starter took out. Cars left parked for weeks while the owner travels lose charge, and in Cedre Villas and Semmer Villas the ones standing on open driveways take the summer heat directly.

Many newer cars use start-stop systems with AGM or EFB batteries, and these have to be registered to the car once fitted. The van carries those batteries and the equipment to register them on the spot. Silicon Oasis sits where Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) meets Dubai-Al Ain Road (E66), and we keep close to it, so the 20–35 minute arrival window we give is a realistic one.

What happens on a visit

The first thing the technician does is test the battery and the alternator, at no charge. Where a replacement is needed, the correct size and type for the make, model and year comes out of the van's stock. The terminals are cleaned, the charging voltage is checked after fitting, and the old battery goes with us to a licensed recycling facility.

If the test says the battery is still healthy, it stays in the car and we say so. About a third of the cars we test turn out not to need a new battery, and telling you that matters more to us than making a sale.

Price and warranty

A fitted battery starts from AED 249. That one figure includes the battery itself, the labour, the test and the recycling of the old unit. We do not charge a call-out fee, and the price at three in the morning is the price at noon.

Every battery we fit carries a warranty of up to 24 months. It is recorded against your number plate, so you do not need to hold on to a receipt. Should the battery fail within the warranty period, the replacement is brought to you the same way the original was.
