AGM and EFB battery replacement in Silicon Oasis
Start-stop cars need an AGM or EFB battery, not a standard one. We bring the right type, fit it where the car is parked and register it with the car where the manufacturer requires it.
- 01
Like for like, or better
AGM is replaced with AGM. EFB is replaced with EFB or AGM. Never a step down.
- 02
Registered on the spot
The new battery is coded or registered where the car asks for it.
- 03
Settings kept
A memory saver stays connected while the batteries are swapped.

Start-stop batteries
Why a start-stop car cannot take an ordinary battery
A start-stop engine switches off at every red light and restarts when you lift off the brake, so its battery is drained and recharged many times more often than a conventional one. AGM (absorbent glass mat) and EFB (enhanced flooded) batteries are built for that cycling. Fit a standard battery in their place and it usually fails within months, and the start-stop function stops working well before that.

Getting it right
Four things that matter on a start-stop battery change
Capacity is only one line of the specification.
The right technology
Check the label on the battery fitted now. If it says AGM, the car needs AGM. If it says EFB, it needs EFB or AGM. Start-stop cars with brake-energy recovery are normally AGM.
Battery registration
Many European cars log the battery's age and capacity and charge it accordingly. After a change the car has to be told a new battery is fitted, otherwise it keeps charging as if the old one were still there.
Power kept on during the swap
A memory saver holds the supply while the battery is out, so window, radio and seat settings and learned engine values are not lost.
Location and venting
Batteries mounted in the boot or under a seat have a vent tube that carries gas outside the cabin. It is refitted to the new battery every time.
The visit
How a start-stop battery replacement runs
The same single visit, with two extra steps a standard change does not need.
- 01
Send the car details
Make, model and year, or a photo of the label on the current battery. That tells us the type, capacity and case size.
- 02
Old battery tested
Battery and alternator are checked first, free of charge. Start-stop often switches itself off simply because the battery is low.
- 03
Swap with memory saver
The new AGM or EFB unit goes in with the supply held, terminals cleaned and the vent tube and battery sensor refitted.
- 04
Register and verify
The battery is registered with the car where required, the charging voltage is confirmed and the warranty is handed over.
Battery types
Standard, EFB and AGM compared
The three kinds of 12V starter battery fitted to cars in the UAE.
| Type | How it is built | Made for | Can replace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard flooded | Lead plates in liquid acid, usually sealed and maintenance-free. | Cars without start-stop and with ordinary electrical loads. | Standard only. |
| EFB (enhanced flooded) | A flooded battery with reinforced plates that tolerates roughly twice the charge cycles of a standard one. | Entry-level start-stop cars and cars making many short trips. | EFB or standard. |
| AGM (absorbent glass mat) | The acid is held in glass-fibre mats, so the battery is sealed, spill-proof and recovers better from deep discharge. | Start-stop with brake-energy recovery, premium cars and heavy electrical loads. | AGM, EFB or standard. |
An upgrade from standard to EFB or AGM is usually possible but not always worthwhile: a car's charging system is tuned for the battery type it left the factory with. Ask before paying for capacity the car cannot use.

AGM and EFB batteries: what people ask
Something else? Call +971 54 309 2008. A person answers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How do I know if my car has an AGM or EFB battery?
The label on the battery says AGM, EFB or Start-Stop. Other clues are a start-stop off button on the dashboard and a small sensor on the negative terminal. Send us the model and year and we confirm it.
Can I fit a cheaper standard battery in a start-stop car?
It will physically fit, but it is not built for the cycling and usually fails early. The start-stop system may also stop working. Replace AGM with AGM and EFB with EFB or AGM.
What is battery registration?
Telling the car's battery management system that a new battery has been fitted, and its type and capacity. The car then resets its charging strategy. Many BMW, Mini, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and Ford models need it.
What happens if a new battery is not registered?
The car keeps charging it as though it were the old, worn battery. That can overcharge or undercharge the new one, shorten its life and leave start-stop disabled.
Why has my start-stop stopped working?
The most common reason is a battery that is low on charge or near the end of its life: the car disables start-stop to protect its ability to restart. A battery test shows whether that is the cause.
Do AGM batteries last longer in Dubai heat?
They cope better with deep discharge and constant restarts, but heat still ages them. Correct registration and charging matter more than the label alone.
